First things first, don’t let the Lagunitas name fool you, Hi Fi Hops is NOT a beer: it’s a sparkling water with a hoppy accent. These drinks are also not just CBD drinks: they have THC in them, so you can only currently buy Lagunitas Hi Fi Hops in Colorado and California marijuana dispensaries (though expect them to come to dispensaries in other states soon).
Also: the version of Lagunitas Hi Fi Hops we got our hands on had an 18:1 CBD:THC ratio, but there’s also a a 1:1 CBD:THC version (with 5 mg of each) for those looking for a more buzzy experience (as we expect many Lagunitas fans are).
Background: Who is Lagunitas?
Any Californian who dabbles in the booze knows a thing or two (or 10, on some nights) about Lagunitas: they’re a very popular beer brand birthed in, you guessed it, Lagunitas, California. Alongside cold brew coffee brands and kombucha brands, prominent names in the beer industry are starting to cook up their own CBD goodies. Let’s see how Lagunitas did.
Lagunitas Hi Fi Hops Review
Taste Score: 8.5/10
Does the drink taste bueno or no bueno?
We’ve reviewed other CBD-infused sparkling waters and this one stands out as the best tasting. You might not think that a sparkling water with added hops sounds delicious, but with the addition of citrusy and lemony overtones it’s actually quite refreshing and light. The taste is mild, and it borrows just enough of that hoppy Lagunitas IPA taste without seeming too beer-y.
Value Score: 7.5/10
How much CBD bang are you getting for your buck?
We found Lagunitas Hi Fi Hops for $9, and it came with 18mg of CBD and 1mg of THC. While that’s a bit on the pricey end in terms of $-per-gram of CBD, since these are also THC infused the higher price point isn’t a surprise.
Health score: 7.5/10
How committed is this brand to health and wellness? We look at all the ingredients.
First, the good: this drink has no sugar, no carbs, no gluten, and no alcohol, so there’s nothing bad in here to worry about. At the same time, typically in this section we talk about the other health-promoting ingredients of the CBD drink: are they organic? Do they use adaptogenic herbs? Are there any other healthy ingredients? With Lagunitas Hi Fi Hops, the answer is no. This is more of a “get kinda lit” drink than a health-promoting drink.
Relief Score: 9/10
Many of us consume CBD to relieve ailments. Does this product provide effective relief?
We at Remedy Journey have always found that CBD works better in the presence of THC, and this drink is another example of that. I found it to be a very effective anxiety-reliever, despite the fact that I’m used to larger doses of CBD (usually in the 25-40mg range).
What makes this drink special? Does it promote productivity or focus? Does it get one “lit”?
This isn’t a big time productivity drink since it doesn’t have caffeine, but again, the combination of CBD and THC is a winner: you get chest-deep relief, and a sense of warmth and calmness that’s a bit more powerful than just CBD alone.
Final Verdict: 8.2/10
Let’s put it all together: what’s our overall take on this drink?
It tastes very good (especially for a sparkling water) and the CBD + THC combo is always great, though this drink lacks some of the health/wellness bells and whistles of other CBD drinks like Vybes or GT’s Dreamcatcher. Still, if you can find it then it’s worth a shot.
