Californians love their weed, so you might think that a city like San Diego would be the epicenter of the newfound CBD craze. But, in fact, California Public Health officials have slowed the growth of the CBD industry with heavy-handed regulations that have even forced California-based CBD businesses out of the state.
It’s still tough to find CBD-infused food and drink in San Diego, but the CBD scene is slowly picking up, and now you can pick from over a wide range of CBD dispensaries. We’ve collected our list of favorites, along with spots to get CBD-infused goodies and CBD massages.
Is CBD legal in San Diego?
The short answer: yes, any CBD product with less than 0.3% THC is legal to purchase and sell in San Diego. Now, it gets a bit more complicated when talking about CBD-infused food and drink: the FDA has formally inhibited the inclusion of CBD in food or drink, and the California Department of Public Health recently cracked down on San Diego businesses offering CBD-infused goodies.
That being said, you can still find CBD edibles and drinks at the CBD dispensaries we list below, there just aren’t a ton of restaurants or cafes offering CBD-infused food/drink yet (though just wait, it’ll come).

Thrive CBD is the first and largest CBD dispensary in San Diego, and they’ve earned their keep as leaders of the local industry with a fantastic selection from their own housemade brand (along with a bevy of national brands as well). Their products are lab-verified and use USA-grown hemp: they’ve got everything from oils, tinctures, and CBD-infused gummies to pet products and special strains of CBD flower. Not many San Diego restaurants and cafes are serving up CBD-infused food and drink because of national regulations, but there’s at least one spot where you can grab CBD goodies:
13. La Marque Cafe
This lovely little coffee shop is one of the few establishments in SD infusing CBD in their offerings: you can add a shot of CBD to any caffeinated drink, though there’s a catch: you have to put it in the drink yourself (this is how they circumvent the FDA/California Public Health Department ban on including CBD in food or drink).
